Tech interested in El Paso linebacker

New Texas Tech special teams coordinator Joe Robinson seems to have already marked off El Paso as one of his recruiting territories, as he's made several visits out west to get a better look at several prospects over the past few weeks. Robinson's most recent visit brought him to Americas High School in El Paso where he saw running back prospect Joshua Fields and linebacker prospect Kolton Lindeman.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Lindeman is very interested in the Red Raiders and contacts Coach Robinson through Twitter regularly. Lindeman was tabbed the 1-6A district defensive MVP after registering 92 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 3 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and one blocked field goal.

WHAT'S NEXT

Lindeman has seen his recruiting stock pick up as of late, receiving an offer from local UTEP with Texas Tech and Purdue coaching staffs also dropping by the school recently. Lindeman has also received some letters from Yale and was invited to Iowa's junior day as well.

The linebacker has a very busy spring schedule as he wrestles in the 220-pound weight class, throws shotput and discus, does long jump, and participates in the 4 x 100-meter relay as well as the open 100 and 200-meter dashes. Lindeman's busy schedule keeps him from travelling too much in the spring, but he does want to visit Lubbock and meet the Tech coaches when spring practice starts.

IN HIS WORDS

“I mean it is a part of Texas football which is an accomplishment itself," he said. "You can tell with every sport they play that they have such a competitive campus. It is so amazing. It is exhilarating to think about being a part of that atmosphere. The amount of money, the amount of time, the amount of effort they put into their athletes it is exciting to me as a player. All I want to do is be the best that I can be and being in that environment where they offer that kind of support is very important to me and makes me very interested.”

OUR REACTION

The Texas Tech coaching staff is in that initial phase of the new recruiting cycle where they put all feelers out and try to cut a big swathe while searching for talented players. That extends to El Paso, and it looks like Coach Robinson may have one of his first legit targets in Lindeman. We'll see if he takes a visit this spring. - Will McKay
