Cibolo (Texas) Steele quarterback Xavier Martin committed to the Texas Tech coaching staff almost one year ago in late July. At the time of his commitment, Martin was an unheralded commitment in terms of offers or rankings - much like every other quarterback recruited by Kingsbury since his arrival at Texas Tech.

The standout athlete went on to have a very successful junior season this past year, leading the Steele Knights to a 14-1 record and only losing to the eventual state champion Katy in the state semi-finals.

Martin finished with 2,110 yards and 21 touchdowns passing along with 698 yards and eight (8) touchdowns rushing - earning District 25-6A All-District First Team Offense honors.

We asked our members at RedRaiderSports to submit questions for the Texas Tech 2017 quarterback commit and they delivered. Here are a few of the selected questions and the answers from Martin.

Q: How do you approach the issue of athlete vs quarterback? Are you an athlete that plays quarterback or are you a quarterback with wonderful athletic ability?

XM: I'm a quarterback with athletic abilities. I've always played quarterback, but I had to play wide receiver for one year to get the speed of Varsity football so I would be ready. Every since then I've been labeled as an athlete, but I'm strictly a quarterback.

Q: What do you think about the offensive line class for 2017 and are there any recruits you are trying to get to join you at Texas Tech?

XM: I think the O-Line class is great! Going to be the best in the 2017 class, no doubt in my mind.

Q: If you could bring one high school player with him to Texas Tech, who would it be and why?

XM: My receiver CJ Williams. Not only is he one of my best friends, but he is extremely quick and has great hands and runs great routes. Colleges are sleeping on him because of his height. He is only 5-foot-7, but he's big weighing 170 already.

Q: Who do you try to emulate when it comes to the quarterback position? Is there a QB or QBs, NFL or College, that you model your game after?

XM: In college football, I watch Christian McCaffrey even though he doesn't play quarterback. From the NFL, I really try to play like Russell Wilson. Pass first, run when need to type of guy.

From - Connertech

Q: Have you experienced very much negative recruiting towards Texas Tech? Also, outside of Texas Tech, what other schools have recruited you the hardest?

XM: Not really any negative recruiting, just a lot of people that told me I should've waited because I would've got a lot more offers. The schools that recruit me the hardest are Cal, Colorado State, and Kansas.

From - kingpapua

Q: What is your favorite color?

XM: Royal Blue

From - FuturePirate

Q: Are cargo shorts lame or extremely functional?

XM: Cargo shorts used to be in style, but they fell off now...so Lame.
