Martin pleased with 2017 class so far

Cibolo (TX) Steele quarterback Xavier Martin committed to Texas Tech in the summer of last year, becoming commit number 2 for the 2017 Texas Tech class and joining Round Rock (TX) offensive lineman Tyler Castaneda. Since the commit, the likes of Jack Anderson, Jalen Reagor, and most recently Dawson Deaton - who committed on Saturday evening - have all decided to become Red Raiders as well. Each of Texas Tech’s five 2017 commits are ranked in the Texas Top100 with Martin most recently earning a spot as the number 91 player in Texas. Martin has been very pleased with how the class is coming together and is excited to continue to build the 2017 class.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Anderson and Martin are serving as the catalysts for the 2017 class and, along with the Texas Tech coaches, are hard at work on the recruiting trail. Martin always makes it a point of emphasis to talk to any new recruits that receive Tech interest or pick up an offer from the Red Raiders. He doesn’t have any names, but the three-star quarterback feels some more commits could come very soon.

Martin has been receiving heavy interest from Houston, California, and Kansas, but has no plans to entertain any of those school’s interest or visit any other schools saying that Texas Tech has told him “If I keep it 100 with them, they will keep it 100 with me, and I will be the only quarterback they take.”

IN HIS WORDS

“I think his (Deaton) commit will be really good for our recruiting class. He was down in Lubbock with me a couple weeks ago and he was a really cool guy. I love that he is now a part of our class,” he said. “I think as a whole our class will be a very good class. I have this feeling we will be getting a lot more commits soon. I talk to a lot of people. Hopefully we can get some running backs and some defensive backs soon. I really want our class to be something unforgettable, and I think we can get there.”

OUR REACTION

Much like Jack Anderson, Martin has become one of the tentpole recruiters for this Texas Tech 2017 class. While Anderson is in DFW trying to get the word out, the Steele QB is spreading his message throughout the San Antonio and Houston areas. Martin is very solid with the Red Raiders. - Will McKay
