Visit to Tech impressed Henderson

The Red Raiders were able to host the majority of the commits from their 2016 recruiting class over the weekend on official visits, including a number of DFW prospects like Dallas (Texas) Skyline defensive end Clarence Henderson.

The prospect was in town with teammates and fellow commits Joe Wallace and Da'Leon Ward. By all accounts, the weekend was a booming success for the Red Raiders, as the prospects in town had a great time with their future teammates, including Henderson.

The Skyline DE loved everything he saw at Tech, including the infrastructure of the football program, plans to upgrade facilities in the near future, and new strength and conditioning program being run by Rusty Whitt.

WHAT'S NEXT?

At 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, Henderson has the requisite frame and measurables to earn some early playing time at Tech as a true freshman, as the Red Raiders will be in need of immediate help and depth from many of the youngsters on the defensive line.

Now, he'll put his pen to paper and sign with the red and black next Wednesday.

IN HIS WORDS

On the new facilities being built:

“That’s just a plus. Being a new class coming in, it’s going to be there for us. It’s just another great thing about the school I’m going to. Everything is brand new, the indoor facility, and it’s just a great environment.”

On Coach Whitt:

“(Strength and conditioning coach Rusty Whitt) seems like he’s pretty intense and that’s really what I’m looking for in a college. I want a strength and conditioning coach that’s going to push us to our limits and I want someone that’s going to push me to my limit and make me the best athlete I can be so that’s just going to make it even better.”

OUR REACTION

Henderson, like the majority of the defensive line class, will have all the opportunity in the world to play as a true freshman next fall, whether that be in a prominent or reserve role. He also loves what's coming with Coach Whitt and new facilities, so it's just a matter of waiting until NSD to sign with Tech for the DE at this point. -Will McKay
