The Texas Tech coaching staff went through some turnover shortly after the 2015-16 season ended. While the changes did not negatively impact the 2016 signing class, the impact on some of the junior prospects in the 2017 recruiting class has yet to be seen.

Hooks (Texas) wide receiver Montrell Estell added an offer from Texas Tech this past fall, however, former linebackers coach Trey Haverty - who recruited the East Texas area for the Red Raiders - offered the standout junior and Estell wasn't exactly sure what would happen after learning Haverty was no longer with the program.

"Texas Tech offered me last year, it was around the beginning of the season," Estell said. "At the time, I mostly talked with Coach Trey Haverty and he offered me, but he has since left the program. Coach (Emmett) Jones messaged me recently and we connected.

"He is working with the wide receivers at Tech now and wants to start building more of a relationship moving forward. I would really like to play in an offense like Texas Tech because they throw the ball a lot. It would be a great opportunity and their offense is similar to the spread we run here at Hooks."

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect holds offers from Texas Tech, Arizona State, Kansas, and Texas State with several other programs beginning to show interest.

"I'm going to visit Arizona State in March and Texas State in April," Estell said. "I'm also attending the Rivals Camp in Dallas next month, but those are the only visits and camps that I have setup at the moment.

"Coaches from SMU, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Alabama, TCU, Duke, Michigan, Texas A&M, Houston, and Texas have all started to show interest recently. I might end up taking a few other visits this spring, but will most likely wait until the summer and take some more trips."

Rated a 5.7 three-star prospect, Estell is the No. 65 overall wide receiver in the nation and the No. 65 prospect on the Rivals.com Texas Postseason Top 100 for the 2017 class.
